Nectarines: This recipe works well with both ripe and unripe nectarines. Make sure to remove the pits and slice before cooking.

Butter: You can glaze the fruits with a touch of melted butter to help with the sticking or use air fryer safe spray oil.

Sugar: You can sprinkle some white sugar or brown sugar on top of the nectarines just before cooking to give it a nice caramelized flavor.

Cinnamon or Pumpkin Spice: You may also add some cinnamon or pumpkin spice to your nectarines to add more flavor.

    What is a nectarine

Prunus persica, or more commonly known as nectarine, are a variety of fuzzless peaches. Typically, fuzziness is a common trait of peaches and was most likely domesticated in China more than 4,000 years ago.

Occasionally, nectarines will sometimes grow on peach trees and vice versa when cross-pollinated. And this back and forth process of gaining and losing fuzz labels nectarines as genuine mutations.

What’s the difference between peaches and nectarines?

Have you ever wondered what makes nectarines different from regular peaches? There are quite a few distinct traits each one has.

And while both of them are stone fruits—having a large pit in the middle—you can really tell which one is which. One major trait that you can’t miss is its fuzziness.

While peaches are fuzzy, nectarines aren’t. Nectarines are also smaller than most peaches and have considerably thinner but firmer flesh.

But one thing’s for sure, both of them are enjoyed for their sweet and delicious flavor.

What to serve with grilled nectarines?

These delicious caramelized nectarines go well with all kinds of sides and toppings.

Here are some great ideas to help you get creative with this wonderful stone fruit:

    1. Whipped cream
    2. Maple syrup
    3. Honey
    4. Yogurt
    5. Ice cream
    6. Diced strawberries
    7. Sliced Bananas
    8. Pancakes
    9. S’mores
    10. Graham crumbs

    How to cut a nectarine

The easiest way to cut a nectarines is to cut the entire circumference of the fruit. Pop the nectarine pit out. Then cut each half into half moon slices.

    How to grill nectarines

Air fryer nectarines get a similar delicious caramelized flavor but grilling nectarines is also a great option.

Simply heat up your grill to medium heat, coat your nectarines with some oil (so they won’t stick to the grill) and grill for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until soft and carmelized.

    FAQ and expert tips

Do nectarines need to be ripe?

Nope! In fact, I prefer them to be a little under ripe. If the nectarines are really hard, they won’t have any sweetness to them. If they’re too soft, they’ll lose their texture when you cook them.

Do I need to use oil when grilling nectarines?

Oil is not necessary, although you would prefer to use butter instead. It helps prevent sticking as well as give more flavor to your nectarines.

Can you put nectarines in an air fryer?

You most certainly can. In fact, grilling nectarines in an air fryer can definitely bring out its juices and give it that amazing melt-in-your-mouth texture.

    Can you reheat grilled nectarines?

Yes, you can. Simply reheat them the same way you cooked them—in your air fryer, of course!
